It was wonderful to see ALL of you at the 20th Anniversary Celebration last Saturday! Your presence made this event extra special. We want to take the opportunity to recognize the parents who had helped in the planning process for this event. Joy Wu, our PTA president for two terms, played a key role in the planning of the 20th anniversary event and led the 2015 yearbook team. She also coordinated the school activities throughout the 2014-2015 school year. Betty Lin & David Siopack, a wonderful couple, were in charge of the editorial work of the yearbook. Rachil Tam, our PTA fundraising coordinator, was in charge of the design of the 20th anniversary Logo, event flyer and the anniversary souvenir backpack. She also contributed to the yearbook editorial work. We want to give a round of applause to the entire photography and yearbook team - William Chu, May Fung, Stephen Kwok, Betty Lin, Henry Luk, Connie Ma, David Siopack, Rachil Tam, and Joy Wu. Thank you for your tireless and meticulous work throughout the year, and especially in presenting to us the special memory of the 20th year landmark. Thank you, thank you, thank you… to all MERC parents, teachers, and students for working together to make this event a success. Enjoy your summer! See you in September! Sincerely, Diana Kuo and Jane Wu Dear Parents, Teachers and Students,
The year 2014 has been a busy and very rewarding one. In 2014, MERC Chinese School has reached the goal of digitalizing our classroom teaching. The technological tools are used in all levels, from Kindergarten through 8th grade. MERC teachers are utilizing various computer-based programs and web-based platforms to present their teaching content and interact with their students both in and outside of the classrooms. In 2014, MERC has designed five training workshops, and three online training courses to promote the digital teaching skills for Chinese language teachers. Our online teaching has not only benefited the teachers in the broader Bay Area but also worldwide. In 2014, MERC has spent a great deal of time and efforts in outreaching the community. MERC attended the annual Confucius Day Celebration, participated in the two-day Castro Valley Fall Festival, sponsored the Chinese Culture Day in the Castro Valley Library, and conducted the Beauty of Chinese Written Characters Workshop at Jensen Ranch Elementary School. I wish to express my deep appreciation to Principal Wu, all of our dedicated teachers, and our outstanding PTA for making the above mentioned activities and events possible. Photos of all of the events have been posted on our school website by our dedicated webmaster and the photography team. Please take time to enjoy these wonderful pictures by our “tech experts”. As we end 2014 with a thankful heart, together, we begin the new 2015 with the hope of new opportunities and accomplishments. Have a happy and prosperous NEW YEAR! Warmly, Diana Kuo, Ph.D. Founder & CEO Occasionally, unexpected inconvenience does happen. This past class day, we got locked out by the school district, but we treated it well and students were all attended in an orderly matter.
